The second annual “National Donate Life Blue and Green Day” on Friday, April 19th, 2013 in support of organ, eye and tissue donation is one way to show support of National Donate Life Month.

“National Donate Life Blue and Green Day” is one of Donate Life America’s initiatives to register new organ, eye and tissue donors by drawing attention to this life-saving decision on both a local and a national stage.  According to New Mexico Donor Services, the best way for New Mexican to sign-up as donors on their New Mexico driver’s license or ID card, or the state’s donor registry at New Mexico Donor Registry.

In Albuquerque, the Donate Life Blue and Green celebration will take place at the Albuquerque Civic Plaza on Friday, April 19th at 11 am where Blue & Green balloons will be released honoring New Mexico’s living and deceased organ donors.  Albuquerque City Councilor Dan Lewis, who donated a kidney to his brother, will read the Donate Life Month proclamation, and Kim Wagner will share her experience of waiting for many years on the national transplant list.

People across New Mexico can get involved by wearing blue and green on April 19th and posting their pictures on the Donate Life America photo contest app on its Facebook page for a chance to win $100 for the best blue and green “look.”

Legislators, celebrities, stylists, newscasters, corporations, hospital employees, and community residents across the nation will be unified in their support of blue and green, with events at designated businesses, motor vehicle agencies, municipalities, and public meeting spaces.

Participants are also encouraged to partner with local restaurants, malls, media, and community organizations to help spread awareness about organ, eye and tissue donation and transplantation.
