Celebrating MVD Appreciation Month: A License to Save

September 2, 2025

Every September, we celebrate MVD Appreciation Month, a time to recognize the incredible partnership between New Mexico Donor Services (NMDS), Donate Life New Mexico, and the Motor Vehicle Departments (MVD) across the state. Together, we form one powerful team with a shared mission: to save and heal lives through the gift of organ, eye and tissue donation.

Organ, eye and tissue donation is an act of love, generosity, and compassion. Right now, roughly 400 New Mexicans are waiting for a life-saving organ transplant. Nationwide, nearly 17 people die every day waiting for the gift of life. Thanks to the partnership between MVD teams and NMDS, hundreds of New Mexicans are connected to the life-saving care they desperately need.

Did you know that 95% of New Mexicans register as organ and tissue donors at the Motor Vehicle Department? That means every interaction our MVDs have is an opportunity to save lives.

Did you know that anyone can be a potential donor if they sign up on the Donate Life New Mexico Organ and Tissue Donor Registry, or through the New Mexico Motor Vehicle Division (MVD) when they apply for or renew their driver’s license.

If you’re on the road to getting your driver’s license, make sure to consider registering to become an organ donor first. Your registration takes less than one minute and will save lives. Champions of hope at every counter:

The Motor Vehicle Department’s role as a partner is powerful. By sparking conversations and providing accurate information, these champions help customers make informed decisions that could save or improve the lives of dozens of people.

Every day, MVD employees across New Mexico ask one powerful question:

#BeTheGift that saves lives!

When you register as an organ, eye and tissue donor, you leave a lasting legacy and bring hope to those waiting.
