New Mexico Donor Services Celebrates Indigenous Peoples’ Day

October 16, 2024

On Indigenous Peoples’ Day, we recognize and honor the diverse cultures of indigenous Americans and recognize the triumphs and struggles that comprise their history.

Karina Loretto, New Mexico Donor Services (NMDS) Native American Affairs Coordinator, celebrated Indigenous Peoples’ Day at Santa Fe Indian School, highlighting its significance as a member of the Jemez Pueblo working at NMDS.

The event showcased dances from 23 tribes, nations and pueblos, with many students proudly wearing their Native American attire.

Karina also took the opportunity to raise awareness about NMDS, promoting education and community engagement to our Native American communities who are at a disproportionate need for transplants.

With nearly 100 Native Americans waiting for a lifesaving transplant in New Mexico, the need for registered organ, eye and tissue donors is great. By saying YES to donation, you offer hope and healing to those waiting for the gift of life.

#BeTheGift that saves lives!

When you register as an organ, eye and tissue donor, you leave a lasting legacy and bring hope to those waiting.
